Mike Shantz

Mike
Shantz joined the Boundary Waters Issues Unit of Environment
Canada in 2004. Since that time, he has held the positions
of Water Resource Analyst and Environmental Resource
Analyst. Most recently, he has been acting in the position
of Coordinator, Environmental Programs. During his time with
Environment Canada, he has been involved with the IJC’s
International
Lake
Ontario-St.
Lawrence
River
water regulation study with his main focus related to the
flooding and coastal process components of the Plan
Formulation and Evaluation Group efforts. Mike has also been
involved with the Canada-Ontario Water Use and Supply
Project, most recently as acting co-chair. Prior to joining
the Boundary Waters Issues Unit, Mike completed his Bachelor
and Masters degrees in Geography at the University of Waterloo. His undergraduate degree
included a specialization in biophysical systems. His
Masters research focused on evaluating hydrological changes
associated with wetland restoration efforts and included
course work in the broader field of water resource planning
and management.
