William Hryb

   William Hryb 58, joined Lakehead Shipping Company Ltd at Thunder Bay in 1975, becoming general manager in 1989.  The shipping agency has been an integral part of the shipping industry since the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway system.

   The company is an agent for numerous International Ship Owners and Charterers worldwide and represents various Canadian and American Ship Owners and Shippers throughout North America.

   Mr. Hryb was born in Oberlahnstein Germany, emigrating to Canada with his parents and brother in 1949.  Ukrainian by heritage he attended local schools studying Communication Arts, and majoring in Broadcast Journalism.

   Prior to accepting a position with Lakehead Shipping Company Ltd, Mr. Hryb traveled extensively in South America as a Freelance writer.  In 32 years with the agency, he has attended and represented over 2,500 Ocean vessels in his long career. He is a member of the Shipping Federation of Canada, West of England Ship Owners Mutual Insurance Association and PWAC [Professional Writers of Canada]

   He is married to Lee, a registered nurse, having 3 children Kaiti 28, Christe 23 and David 20.  Mr. Hryb is a recreational runner, gardening enthusiast, Little League baseball coach and an avid New York Yankees baseball fan.

  He is also a Freelance Journalist writing on mainly marine related topics.  Published numerous times he is a contributing writer for Canadian Sailings /Transportation & Trade Logistics magazine in Montreal.
